Me and Lloyd - January 5, 2012

My on-air reading of my story, "Me and Lloyd", which aired on KRCC and was printed in the Colorado Springs Gazette a few years back. It talks about my constant struggle singing over the loud latte' machine (Lloyd) at coffeehouses. Any singer-songwriter or fan of the movie "Dumb and Dumber" will like this. You can listen to it here:

Goodbye Harvey Pekar - July 15, 2010

The world has lost a true American hero. One of my biggest influences in life, Harvey Pekar, has passed away at 70. The genius behind American Splendor will always remain one of my all-time favorite writers. If you haven't seen the movie starring Paul Giamatti, do yourself a favor and go see it. One of my favorite films of all time. Goodbye Harvey, and thanks for the brutal honesty, the laughs and for making me always root for the underdog. You were a true American inspiration and I will miss you.

17 Souvenirs is released! - February 2, 2010

Check it out here: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/JasonBennett1

Between 1998 and 2009 I wrote nearly 100 songs and released five albums. 17 of those songs are represented here. My intention was to record each song in an earthy, organic and honest manner. In today’s society of unnecessary noise, excess and commercialism, this simple approach appealed to me. Each song is a snapshot of people I have met, places I have been and various landscapes and roads I have taken. On this album you will hear songs about love, love-gone-wrong, boats, fog, the first hundred miles, being a Daddy and the moon. Some songs were written overlooking the Olympia, WA harbor. Others were written on the central coast of California. Many were written under the shadow of Pikes Peak in Colorado. Wherever the songs were written, I hope you enjoy them and that each little “souvenir” finds a small place in your life. Thanks for supporting independent music.

Positively Pikes Peak - The Pikes Peak Region Sings Bob Dylan - December 27, 2009

I am in the early stages of putting together a compilation cd of Bob Dylan songs performed by local Pikes Peak Regional artists. I am hoping to have at least 10-12 songs on the cd. To be considered for the cd, please send me a cd of your version of a Bob Dylan song. And obviously, you must be a local Greater Pikes Peak Regional artist. Keep the submissions diverse! All genres are accepted. This will be a charity cd, with profits after expenses going to a local charity which has yet to be determined. Therefore, artists will not be compensated for their songs. The cd will provide nice exposure for the artists, especially in the Pikes Peak Region. The panelists who will be judging the submissions for this project are:

MICHAEL TEARSON -Michael Tearson is one of the original architects of FM rock radio having started in 1967. He was on WMMR in Philadelphia from 1970-1992 doing late nights. Currently he appears on Sirius/XM's Deep Tracks channel weekends. He reviews music, video and books for Sing Out also writing the occasional feature. His Bob Dylan Radio Hour show featuring performers worldwide doing Dylan in every genre possible appeared on Sirius' Disorder channel for 243 weeks until the channel was shuttered in November 2008 as the XM and Sirius music menus merged. He'll be posting new shows including Dylan Hour style shows at www.radiothatdoesntsuck.com beginning early in 2010.

LELAND RUCKER - Leland Rucker covered music as a newspaper and magazine reporter, columnist and editor for 25 years. He edited Musichound Blues: The Essential Album Guide, an encyclopedia of more than 600 blues artists, is co-author of "The Toy Book," a social history of post-war toys 1945-1972 and co-wrote and directed the 2001 documentary, "Sweet Lunacy: A Brief History of Boulder Rock," traced the rise of rock’n’roll in his adopted hometown. His review of the Slow Train Coming Tour was scheduled to appear on the inside cover of Saved, but Dylan changed his mind and used a drawing instead. He didn't take it personally and thinks Dylan's last 15 years are among his best.

JASON BENNETT - local Colorado Springs folkie who has written, produced and released six cd's of original music will be the music producer for this project. Jason has also covered two Dylan songs on past albums which have been very well-received throughout the world. Jason has been listening to Bob since he was a kid and attributes Bob as his major influence not only in music, but in life. Jason recently performed at the Pikes Peak Center Studio Bee and has been pickin' and singin' at coffeehouses, bookstores and art galleries in Colorado Springs for many years now. Eleven Mile Records Jason Bennett P.O. Box 38581 Colorado Springs, CO 80937 Deadline for submissions is June 1st, 2010. I am hoping for a Xmas 2010 release. P.S.- Shoot me an e-mail with your song selection to make sure it is not taken already! My e-mail is jason@bennettfolk.com for any questions.
