17 Souvenirs - 17-song CD

17_Souvenirs_Cover@96_resized.jpg

Between 1998 and 2009 I wrote nearly 100 songs and released five albums. 17 of those songs are represented here. My intention was to record each song in an earthy, organic and honest manner. In today’s society of unnecessary noise, excess and commercialism, this simple approach appealed to me. Each song is a snapshot of people I have met, places I have been and various landscapes and roads I have taken. On this album you will hear songs about love, love-gone-wrong, boats, fog, the first hundred miles, being a Daddy and the moon. Some songs were written overlooking the Olympia, WA harbor. Others were written on the central coast of California. Many were written under the shadow of Pikes Peak in Colorado. Wherever the songs were written, I hope you enjoy them and that each little “souvenir” finds a small place in your life. Thanks for supporting independent music.

Slow It Down, Take a Step Back - CD

slowitdownalbumcover-190x211.jpg

'Slow It Down, Take a Step Back' is the fifth full-length CD release by folk singer-songwriter Jason Bennett. The CD features nine original songs composed by Bennett and one Bob Dylan cover, Shooting Star. On this recording you will hear acoustic and pedal-steel guitars, a lonesome harmonica and delicate, warm vocals cradled with shimmering harmonies. You will hear children’s laughter. You will hear rain and thunder. You will hear songs that cry out in desperation, close to the point of giving up; “I cried for the first hundred miles. And I cried for a thousand more. And I tried to put it all behind me. But that ain’t working anymore.”

Acoustic Harbor

acousticharborcdcover-01.jpg

The songs on Acoustic Harbor were recorded in my laundry room at my home in Shelton, Washington on an old analog Tascam Porta studio 4-Track. The songs are stripped to the core and are recorded with the philosophy that less is more. In today’s plastic digital age, I find a certain comfort in recording this way and I hope the listener enjoys hearing the songs in their original form. No studio, no back-up musicians, no overdubs, just me thumping on my guitar in my home. Like the way Woody Guthrie used to do it. Or those early bootleg Bob Dylan recordings. I like the personal feeling of inviting the listener into my own home through the songs. The songs are not pristine or polished, but neither is life. And so it goes. I hope you enjoy Acoustic Harbor.

How Many Miles (Until I Forget About You) - download

PikesPeakCenter23.jpg

Download Jason's brand new song, "How Many Miles (Until I Forget About You)" right here. It is one hell of a creeper of a song about lost love, lost highways and the vast American West. The song sneaks up on you and stays for a while, kind of like a sunset on Raton Pass.
